NPASS – Nasal Polyp Patient Assessment Scoring tool

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps, now called ‘Nasal Polyp Syndrome,’ is a highly debilitating condition that presents differently among patients. Historically, the severity of the disease has been evaluated using various subjective and objective assessment tools. However, patients and clinicians require a standardized assessment tool for accurate diagnosis and treatment monitoring.

Rather than depending on a diverse array of subjective and objective assessment methods, the ideal approach would be to create a standardized assessment tool. This tool would streamline diagnosis, ensure consistent patient monitoring, and enable comparison of treatment outcomes across various clinical settings and research endeavours.

In pursuit of this goal, the Nasal Polyp Patient Assessment Scoring Sheet, or N-PASS, was created. Its purpose is to identify both patient-reported and physician-assessed elements, enabling a thorough evaluation of disease status and the patient’s reaction to treatment, ultimately aiming to enhance patient care.

This episode is followed by the published paper on ‘Assessment of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps: Development of the Nasal Polyp Patient Assessment Scoring Sheet tool’, which can be read on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website.
